Intraoral Scanners

On this page you will get a quick overview of each scanner.  The scanners are not in any type of order.  There are more scanners on the market and more awaiting FDA approval.

Click on the photos to be directed to the manufactures site.

There are some quick notes and features on each scanner.  As long as the scanner can export an .STL or .PLY  labs will be able to import the case.  A majority of these systems have a portal built in to communicate to the lab.  You can also use our DDX  portal to submit your .STL and .PLY files if the scanner does not have a lab connection.
(see case submission page)

Primescan

The Dentsply Sirona Primescan has a very fast scanning speed.  The Pixel Sensors claims to process more than 1 million 3D points per second.  The scanner also comes with a dynamic scan depth, giving you control of the scanning depth up to 20mm, allowing accurate scans of margins, implants and more.  It is wired to its cart, but has a large touch screen to manage your workflow. Whereas the Omnicam was one of the smallest and lightest scanners on the market, the Primescan is larger then the Omnicam.  It is now one of the larger scanners on the market.  When looking for an in office scanner and dental mill (Prime Mill) this system is ready.  The Primescan has a lab portal to share scans and case information with your lab. Trios 4

This is the fourth generation of TRIOS scanners and builds on the strengths of the TRIOS 3, which is already one of the fastest scanners on the market.  Although this doesn’t impact performance, it has to be said that the TRIOS 4 looks sleek.  The Trios 4 has a touch screen cart, laptop version, and a wireless camera as well.

The TRIOS software has also seen major improvements to its scope including Clear Aligners, Dentures, Sleep appliances and Splints.  A 3rd party mill can be paired to the Trios for in office milling.

There will be a little bit of a learning curve, but easily overcome. The Trios does have a lab portal to share scans and case information with your lab           . (3shape Communicate)

Element 5D

The scanner is relatively smooth.  It is still one of the best scanners for orthodontic treatments, specifically Invisalign. This due to its unique Invisalign simulator feature in which after taking a full mouth scan you can see an example of a possible result after orthodontic treatment.  The NIRI Image can be used for inter-proximal screening.  The element 5D is a cart version.  It has a 21.5 inch touchscreen.  iTero also has the Element 2 touchscreen, a laptop, and Flex Version.  For in office milling, a 3rd party mill and software can be paired to the iTero family of scanners.  Expect to do some shopping and spending some time getting started. The iTero does have a lab portal to share scans and case information with your lab.

The scanning speed is faster than the CS3600 (it is said by up to 30%) but is still not as quick compared to some of the other scanners on the market. There are 3 scanning tips available, the 3700 is an improved design of the CS 3600. The CS Restore software still exists but it is still limited and has not seen any major changes.
